Microcredit Regulatory Authority

The Microcredit Regulatory Authority (MRA) has been established by the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh under the "Microcredit Regulatory Authority Act 2006” to promote and foster sustainable development of microfinance sector through creating an enabling environment for NGO-MFIs in Bangladesh. MRA is the central body to monitor and supervise microfinance operations of NGO-MFIs. License from the Authority is mandatory to operate microfinance operations in Bangladesh as an NGO.

An inaugural ceremony of Digital Mapping of Microfinance Access Points in Bangladesh was held on 9th January, 2018 at MRA conference room. Mr. Md. Eunusur Rahman, Senior Secretary, Financial Institutions Division, Ministry of Finance, People's Republic of Bangladesh, was present as chief guest. Mr Arijit Chowdhury, Additional Secretary and Ms. Mursheda Jaman, Deputy Secretary were also present as special guests. The inaugural ceremony was presided over by Mr. Amalendu Mukherjee, EVC of MRA. All officials of MRA attended the event. The chief guest thanked MRA for such an initiative and said that Digital Mapping will help us to view the financial access points of Microfinance throughout the country. It will be helpful for the people to find out the MFIs access point to their nearby area and to choose the service providers (MFIs). Policy makers will be able to understand geographical existence of MFIs in Bangladesh which will help them in decision making process.

MRA organized a special program and “milad mahfil” to recall the 15th August, the national mourning day at the Conference room of the Authority on August 15, 2018. Mr. Main Uddin Ahmed, the acting Executive Vice-Chairman of MRA presided over the program. All employees of the Authority were present and recalled this tragic day with due respects. Many of them gave speeches and   mentioned this tragic day as the darkest day in the history of Bangladesh. Mr. Md. Sirajul Hoque, the Director of the authority stated that we all are ashamed of the brutal killing of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman together with almost all of his family members and now our duty is to serve with great sincerity and integrity to make the real golden Bangladesh which he dreamed. It is mentionable that MRA organized a special follow-up meeting with the MFIs on 7th August 2018 and all the Microfinance Institutions are observing this day with due respect all over the country.
