Basic Informations

Action Contre La Faim (ACF) / Action Against Hunger is one of the leading organisations in the fight against hunger worldwide. The mission of the organization is to save lives by eliminating hunger through the prevention, detection and treatment of undernutrition, especially during and after emergency situations of conflict, war and natural disaster. Founded in 1979, Action Contre La Faim is working in 45 countries, coming to the aid of around 13 million people.


Action Contre La Faim (ACF) / Action Against Hunger began working in Bangladesh since 2007 following the floods in Shariatpur and cyclone Sidr. Since then Action Contre La Faim (ACF) / Action Against Hunger has been working to fight against hunger, malnutrition and responding to humanitarian crisis in Bangladesh. At present, the organization has its programmes in Dhaka, Satkhira, Barguna and Cox’s Bazar. The organization has plans to continue working in Bangladesh with the aim to fight under-nutrition, its underlying causes and extend support to vulnerable population in need of humanitarian assistance.


To eradicate hunger and fight undernutrition, Action Contre La Faim (ACF) / Action Against Hunger programming looks deep into the underlying causes of hunger and works through an integrated approach. By integrating our programmes with regional and national systems, Action Contre La Faim (ACF) / Action Against Hunger is ensuring that short-term actions are becoming long-term solutions. Mission

Our mission consists of saving lives through prevention, detection and treatment of malnutrition, particularly during and following emergencies

Objectives

To reduce malnutrition prevalence in Bangladesh through a multi-sector approach

Major Activities

1)Nutrition & Health is at the core of Action Contre La Faim (ACF) / Action Against Hunger programming. ACF Nutrition & Health programme is designed to prevent, diagnose and treat acute malnutrition of population who are at high risk, such as young children, pregnant and lactating women.


2)Food Security and Livelihood programme promotes food security and protects livelihood security of vulnerable groups who are at high risk of undernutrition in Bangladesh. ACF combines emergency relief with recovery programmes which contributes towards resilient livelihoods.


3)Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) programme aims at preventing waterborne diseases and reducing mortality and morbidity rate of vulnerable and exposed populations. ACF WASH programming works to ensure access to safe drinking water, sanitation facilities and managing the solid waste in communities to sustain clean and healthy environment.


4)Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRR&M) programme comprises of emergency response and long-term community based activities to reduce vulnerability and increase disaster resilience of communities. ACF Bangladesh DRR&M programme advocates for mainstreaming DRR practices in local and national level government structures.


5)Mental Health and Care Practices (MHCP) programme works to prevent acute malnutrition by reinforcing positive child care practices and providing psychological support to targeted families in the event of natural disasters and conflicts. ACF  MHCP programme closely works with government and non-government stakeholders to advocate for mainstreaming Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) in DRR and emergencies in Bangladesh.
