Brief of activities :
5,000 households from marginalized communities have improved and safe access to basic sanitation.
1. Formation and Strengthening of Self-Help Groups (SHGs):
- Establish 100 SHGs (60 rural, 40 urban) involving 2,000 women.
- Conduct trainings on leadership, conflict management, and accounts and revolving fund management.
2. Climate-resilient Water Supply, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH):
- Install solar-powered mini water supply networks with deep tube wells and water kiosks.
- Construct 70 double-pit latrines (raised platforms to prevent flooding).
- Develop 500 meters of tertiary drainage in Satkhira’s urban slums.
3. Solid Waste Management:
- Establish a waste collection and recycling system linked to a “plastic exchange/eco-shop.”
- Support community waste management groups for operation and maintenance.
4. Awareness & Behaviour Change Communication (BCC):
- Conduct 50 mass education events (urban & rural) on hygiene, gender-based violence (GBV), and child marriage.
- Promote proper use of sanitation and hygiene facilities.
5000 households benefit from diversified and increased agricultural production year-round.
1. Climate-smart Agriculture Promotion:
- Train 5,000 farmers (50% women) in climate-adapted and nutrition-sensitive agriculture.
- Establish 30 Climate Resilient Farmer Field Schools (CRFFS) and community gardens.
2. Home/Roof Gardening:
- Support 2,500 households in creating climate-friendly home/roof/sack gardens using composting, mulching, and IPM.
3. Poultry and Livestock Development:
- Promote small livestock and poultry rearing among 3,000 households.
- Reduce disease-related animal losses through training and vaccination.
4. Women’s Decision-making Empowerment:
- Conduct sessions to enhance women’s participation in financial and livelihood decisions at the household level.
200 local government representatives align their policies and plans with climate-resilient goals.
1. Advocacy and Coordination Meetings:
- Organize 12 advocacy and coordination sessions among local authorities (Municipality, Union, Upazila, and ministries).
2. Training on Climate Adaptation Approaches:
- Train 200 government officials/elected representatives on integrating climate resilience into planning.
3. Evidence-based Policy Dialogue:
- Conduct a study with BRAC JPG School of Public Health on climate change, food systems, nutrition, and public health in Satkhira.
- Host national and local workshops to share research findings and influence policy.
The capacities of partner organizations have been strengthened.
1. Capacity Development Workshops:
- Train 20 staff members on procurement, localization, protection, and financial management.
2. Technical and MEAL Training:
- Conduct workshops on project cycle management, MEAL, CFRM, and knowledge management.
- Support establishment of organizational systems for accountability and reporting.
