Habitat for Humanity Bangladesh

Basic Informations

Bangladesh, a South Asian country heavily impacted by poverty, has been home to Habitat for Humanity Bangladesh since 1999. As a branch of Habitat for Humanity International, it currently operates in seven project locations across the country, aiming to break the cycle of poverty-related to poorly-constructed homes and inadequate shelter.

Habitat Bangladesh is currently working in the areas of Mymensingh (City Corporation Area and Trishal Upazila), Dhaka (City Corporation Area), Pirojpur (Kaukhali Upazila), Patuakhali (Sadar Upazila), Satkhira (Sadar Upazila) Kurigram (Sadar, Chilmari and Ulipur Upazila) and Jamalpur (Municipality  Area and Sadar Upazila) with the National Office situated in the capital Dhaka.  Three of the above working location have established Project Offices that focus on local research and initiatives while using appropriate technologies to deliver housing solutions to low-income families. Habitat Bangladesh takes a holistic approach to development, working closely with communities, partner organizations, and other Non-Government organizations. Local, international, corporate and community volunteers work alongside our home partners to donate their time, labor, and money to help build houses.

Habitat Bangladesh began implementing disaster risk reduction projects in 2007, Water, Sanitation & Health projects in 2011, and Urban projects in 2012. Habitat Bangladesh also helped to found the Urban INGO Forum and Bangladesh Housing forum and maintains strong coordination with governmental and non-governmental stakeholders.

To date, more than 17,528 low-income Bangladeshi families have partnered with Habitat to improve their housing, water, sanitation, and general living conditions. Above 96,883 people have also received training in household financial management, improved water and sanitation, appropriate construction technologies, and disaster response and mitigation.
